Terms of Service

Welcome to Life Map! These Terms of Service ("Terms") are a legal agreement between you and Life Map ("Life Map," "we," "us," or "our") governing your use of the Life Map website and services ("Service"). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

1. Eligibility & Age Requirements

You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service. If you are located in a European Union member state or another jurisdiction where a higher age is required to consent to the processing of personal data, that higher age applies (16 in most EU member states). If you are under the required age, you may only use the Service with the consent and supervision of a parent or legal guardian who agrees to these Terms on your behalf.

2. Description of the Service

Life Map is a personal timeline and memory preservation platform. The Service lets you create one or more life maps and document the moments of your life as timeline entries containing text, dates, locations, and media (photos, videos, and audio). You can keep your timeline private, share it with approved followers, make it visible to other signed-in users, or generate unlisted sharing links. Additional features — including higher media limits, video and audio uploads, animated journey videos, and AI-assisted features — are available on the paid "Plus" plan. AI features may be powered by third-party providers.

3. Accounts & Account Security

You can sign in with Google, Facebook, or an emailed magic link. We do not store passwords. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your sign-in methods and for all activity that occurs under your account. You agree to provide accurate information and to notify us promptly of any unauthorized use of your account.

4. Your Content & License

You retain ownership of the content you upload or create on the Service, including text, photos, videos, and audio ("Your Content"). By uploading Your Content, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive license to store, process, display, and serve Your Content for the purpose of providing the Service to you and to any viewers you authorize through sharing settings. You represent and warrant that you own or have all necessary rights to Your Content and that it does not violate these Terms or any law.

5. Media Storage & Unguessable Public Links

This section is important — please read it carefully.

Media you upload is stored with our cloud storage provider (Cloudflare R2) and is served to viewers through long, random, unguessable public URLs — the same approach used by popular photo services such as Instagram and video services such as YouTube. This means:

  • Anyone who obtains the URL can view the file. There are no additional access checks on media URLs; protection relies on the unguessability of the link and on the Service never displaying it to people you have not authorized.
  • This design is intentional and required for performance. Serving media directly from a global CDN keeps your timeline fast to load and keeps hosting costs sustainable.
  • By uploading media you acknowledge and accept this security trade-off. Do not share media URLs outside the Service, because anyone with a link can view the file.
  • We are not responsible for exposure caused by link sharing, screenshots, downloads, or other copying by viewers you have authorized.

When you delete media, an entry containing media, or your account, we remove the corresponding database records and delete the underlying files from our storage on a best-effort basis, after which the links stop working.

6. Sharing & Visibility

By default your timeline is private and visible only to you. You may choose to share it:

  • Private: only you can see your timeline.
  • Followers: only users whose follow requests you have accepted can see your timeline.
  • Public: anyone with your sharing link can see your timeline without signing in.
  • Sharing links: you can generate a sharing link for a life map. Anyone with the link can view a public map without signing in; private and followers-only maps still require the corresponding access.

Viewers can see your timeline entries, including text, dates, locations, and attached media. They cannot edit or delete your content through the Service. You can revoke access at any time by changing your sharing settings, removing followers, or blocking users. We are not responsible for what viewers may capture outside the platform (for example, screenshots or recordings).

7. Acceptable Use & Prohibited Content

You agree not to:

  • Upload, store, or share content that is unlawful, defamatory, harassing, hateful, or that infringes the intellectual property or privacy rights of others;
  • Upload or share any content that exploits minors, or any unlawful sexual content (we report such content to the authorities as required by law);
  • Use the Service to send spam, scrape content, probe or attack the Service's security, or interfere with other users' use of the Service;
  • Impersonate others, misrepresent your identity, or attempt to access accounts or content that are not yours.

We may remove content or suspend accounts that violate these Terms, at our discretion and to the extent permitted by law.

8. Subscriptions, Payments & Cancellation

Paid plans are billed through Stripe, our payment processor. Your subscription automatically renews at the end of each billing period unless you cancel it. You can cancel at any time from your Settings page via the Stripe billing portal; cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period, and you keep Plus access until then. We may change plan prices with reasonable notice before the change applies to you. Refunds are handled according to our refund policy and as required by applicable law. Your payment details are processed by Stripe and are subject to Stripe's terms and privacy policy.

9. Intellectual Property & Copyright (DMCA)

The Service and its original content, features, and functionality are owned by Life Map and are protected by applicable intellectual property laws. Your Content remains yours. If you believe content on the Service infringes your copyright, please send a notice with your contact information, a description of the copyrighted work, the location (URL) of the allegedly infringing content, and a statement of good-faith belief to support@lifem.app. We will respond to valid notices in accordance with the Digital Millennium Copyright Act.

10. Third-Party Services & Links

The Service integrates with third-party providers, including Google and Facebook (sign-in), Stripe (payments), Resend (transactional email), Cloudflare R2 (media storage), Vercel (hosting), and Sentry (error monitoring). Your use of those services is also governed by their own terms and privacy policies. We are not responsible for third-party websites or services.

11. Privacy

Your use of the Service is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which explains what data we collect and how we handle it.

12. Disclaimer of Warranties

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT GUARANTEE THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR SECURE, OR THAT STORED CONTENT WILL NEVER BE LOST.

13. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, Life Map AND ITS AFFILIATES, OFFICERS, EMPLOYEES, AND AGENTS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS OF DATA OR CONTENT, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE. OUR TOTAL AGGREGATE LIABILITY WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF THE AMOUNTS YOU PAID US IN THE TWELVE MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM OR FIFTY US DOLLARS ($50).

14. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Life Map from any claims, damages, or expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of Your Content or your violation of these Terms or any applicable law.

15. Termination & Account Deletion

You may delete your account at any time from your Settings page. Deleting your account permanently removes your profile, life maps, timeline entries, and media records from our systems, cancels any active subscription, deletes your media files from storage on a best-effort basis, and makes shared links stop working. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms.

16. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by email and/or through the Service, and the "Last updated" date above will be revised. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.

17. Governing Law & Disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, United States, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Any disputes will be resolved in the courts located in the State of California, United States. Nothing in these Terms limits your rights under mandatory consumer protection laws where you reside.
